This Thursday night we will be doing an extreme makeover on a 1959 Chevy Impala. This car has a modern basecoat/clearcoat finish, so the products, tools and techniques we use on this classic 1959 Impala will also work on anything in your garage or driveway.

What's in it...409?

Dull hazy paint caused by millions of swirls in the clear layer of paint. The hazy clear coat blocks your eyes from seeing the true red color of the base coat.


Flex Swirl Finder Light
The clearcoat finish on this Impala is absolutely horrible as you can see with the new Flex Swirl Finder Light Nick is using....











Bright Sun Light
Swirl finder lights are handy when it's cloudy or dark outside like during the winter. If it is sunny outside, you can use bright overhead sun to inspect the true condition of the paint.

The paint is dull and lifeless due to the mass swirls in the clearcoat. Our goal will be to remove the swirls using Mothers Professional Line of products and create a deep, dark red finish that looks like it just came out of the paint booth.

This should be a great article showcasing these products.

I think we're going to attack it using rotary buffers with wool pads and the 81132 Rubbing Compound and then try to finish out using the Flex 3401 with the 83432 Foam Pad Polish with LC Hybrid Polishing Pads.

Then machine wax it using the new Synthetic Paste Wax.

It's been a while since I used the Mothers Pro Line but I had great success using the Foam Pad Polish on this Dodge Magnum.

I'll be doing more work in the future using the Mothers Pro Line in South America so I'm going to spend some garage time re familiarizing myself with their abrasive technology.

I think it has a 283 small block Chevy engine with a 2-speed Power Glide. I'll check next time I'm in the garage.

As a matter of fact, we just shipped it off to Troy Trepanier (Rad Rides by Troy) to have an Art Morrison chassis stuck under it. Look for it on the Power Tour this year.
