Any Video/YouTube/Editing Gurus in the house?
Any Video/YouTube/Editing Gurus in the house?
I have 3 cameras now that all take video and I need to become more knowledgeable on optimizing/converting/compressing different video formats for use on YouTube.
I'm also wondering if there's some easy to use software for doing simple things like adding titles, etc. The more simple and straight forward the software is the better.
I could do the research on all of the above and figure it out on my own but I don't have a lot of extra time for a project like this so I thought I would see if any of our members already know a lot of this stuff and could flatten out my learning curve. Kind of keeping with the idea of "Each one teach one"
I want to shoot some video tonight while working the Starline Deville project and was going to use a Sony Handycam model DCR SX40
The Sony records video in .mpg file format.
My Cannon records video using .mov file format.
The iphone captures in one format, (not sure what it is), but when it uploads directly to YouTube it compresses it, I don't think it compresses if I move it off my phone and directly onto my computer and if it doesn't, should I compress it before uploading?
So if this is your thing, reply to this thread and lets talk.
Thanks!

So we get to watch you type to us? Just kidding.
I just received a new graphics card today to install and it had a trial of this software:
badaboomit.com
Haven't ever used it, but it has a demo, which should prove helpful.
I haven't done much video editing in a few years now, so everything I used to know is antiquated.
There are some "freeware" programs that do this. I just can't remember them since it has been so long.

All youtube videos turn into Flash. I think it lets you re-download in the same format you uploaded in. Youtube does the converting from the format you upload into Flash.
For software, it would help to know what OS you are using. For Windows there is Windows Movie Maker (not rated very highly, but I think its free). Sony's Vegas line is good. Sony Creative Software - Vegas Pro, Vegas Movie Studio, and Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Edition
On the Mac iMovie or Final Cut Pro

I hear that Adobe media encoder is pretty good. And if you want to export to youtube, you should export in FLV format out of adobe media encoder. and use these dimensions 425x318.
Also use 192kbps or 128kbps mp3 audio quality. And because its direct FLV it won't resample.. it will just compress the data. This is what i have read in and around the web about uploading to YouTube.
