The key thing with this machine and the Rupes Larger Throw machines is let the machine do the work. Your basically there to guide it around. That's what I love about their machines. They are effortless. The machine does all the work for you. Once you get used to that it's a breeeeze........

And there is Mike's great book on Rupes, it's worth every penny.

Mike Phillips’ How to Use The RUPES Bigfoot Paint Polishing System
    Exactly.

    Power tool 101:

Get the tool suited to the job.

Use it in the manner intended.

Do not force the tool to work faster or harder than it was designed to. (i.e. forcing a piece of lumber through a table saw, or in our case, putting excessive force on a polisher head).

Allow the tool to do the work. Do not attempt to override its capabilities.

And that's exactly what I used it for

Keep at it- the 2nd time I used it was night and day... just light pressure (if any) and good exercise at keeping the machine flat

    Agree.

Very disappointed the first time I used it. After a few rounds, I found that I was using it on both of my quarter panels and fenders in addition to the tighter spots.
