Wolfgang DGPS 3.0 - Winter Test
Over the past winters, I've taken pictures of how the paint on my truck progresses over the winter. This winter I've decided to document this in more detail, and post the results on here.
The test subject is my daily driver, a 2002 Ford F-150 with 117,000miles. It sits outside 24/7. The area for the test will be mostly in the UP of Michigan, Houghton to be exact, a place that averages 200inches of snow for the winter. This is where I go to school, and the truck will be parked in a parking lot. The other parts will be back in Chicago during breaks. The truck will probably receive ONR washes then and maybe a spray sealant, haven't decided if I will be doing the spray sealant because of this test. The previous sentence is weather permitting. I do keep a bottle of Meguiar's M135 and some MF's in the cab in case of bird bombs.
The truck does not get driven everyday, but right now is being driven about 200miles each week. That will change to about 20-50miles each week once winter really hits.
So here we go,
August 27, 2012.
- Wash w/ Chemical Guy's Citrus Wash & Gloss. 1oz/1gal
- Clayed w/ Meguiar's Clay Kit
- 1 coat WGDGPS 3.0 applied via G110v2 on LC Crimson HT.
- WG Exterior Trim Sealant on all trim. Tonneau cover has nothing.
- Duragloss 501 on all wheels
- Rain-X on all glass.
- WG Black Diamond Tire gel
In addition to the Rain-X, my washer fluid is Rain-X 2 in 1 fluid. The orange one.
August 28, 2012.
- ONR Wash
- Second coat WGDGPS 3.0 applied the same as before. 16hr cure time.
September 1, 2012.
After driving about 600miles. Rained a little the night before. Truck is dusty up close.
September 7, 2012.
Rain-X action at 65-70mph. Click the image, its a video.
Still raining.
Video of beading. Again, click the image.
September 17, 2012.
Washed at automatic-touchless car wash. No pictures.
September 28, 2012.
Truck has been driven down a 7mile long gravel road and a little mud.
October 4, 2012.
Washed at automatic-touchless car wash. No pictures.
_________________________________________________
I will try to update this thread at least once a month, will probably be bi-weekly. Look forward to lots of pictures and then videos of water beading and blowing right off the hood. And yes, I will remember pictures of before and after the car wash from here on. I will try to get more detail in the pictures as well.
If anyone has any comments or suggestions, they are more than welcome.
Thanks for looking.

Great Idea, I actually just bought WDPS 3.0. Going to use it for the first time on my wifes car for a winter sealant.

The red on that truck pops! What is the name of the paint on your truck. I have a toreador red explorer and when it's cleaned up nice the red looks amazing also.

The beading shot on your black trim is very cool! I must try some of that WG Exterior Trim Sealant.

Chris,
We have pm'd a few times about the U.P. and your truck. Big fan of both. I unfortunately won't make it up this year.

Thanks. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the sealant.

Thanks, the color is Bright Red/Vermillion, it depends on who you ask. My mom as an Edge in Redfire Metallic, similar to Toreador, but it almost has a pearl effect to it. Beautiful in the right light.

Give it try. As you can tell by the photos, it beads as well as the paint. It lasts a long time too.

Sorry to hear that Chet. The last few weeks have been beautiful between the trees and the northern lights. Although at this point, I think its safe to say that winter is literally around the corner.

Thanks for posting!
Thanks Bobby. I encourage you and others to do a timeline as well. It's interesting seeing how other's winter combos perform over winter in various climates.

Thanks for your time and effort in doing so.
- I affirm, as previously attested to by others:
Your truck looks Great.
- I, too, use and enjoy WGDGPS...And you've even put it through the:
"Washed at automatic-touchless car wash"...Testing Facilities!!
- I'm curious to why: "Tonneau cover has nothing", though.

Thanks Bob. Truth be told, I forgot about the tonneau at the time.
I have a comparison test planned for it over Thanksgiving break though.
