Review: Meguiars Pad Washer & DP Polishing Pad Rejuventor

    Review: Meguiars Pad Washer

    Introduction:
Let me start by saying I've never used a pad washer, so there is a bit of a learning curve here for me.

I've been a huge fan of Meguiars products for years. I find them easy to use while producing great results. So when I saw AG offer their new pad washer with Detailers Pro Polishing Pad Rejuvenator I knew I had to put my name in for it.

    Pad Washer Description (from AG):
Using the rotation of the polisher, the Meguiars Pad Washer releases stubborn product residues from pads. You don't even have to get your hands wet! The process is simple and the results speak for themselves - clean, nearly dry pads in a matter of minutes.

DP Pad Rejuvenato (also from AG)
Detailer’s Pro Series Polishing Pad Rejuvenator was created to provide detailers with a fast and effective way to clean pads without soapy residue or foamy degreasers. From the manufacturer of Snappy Clean, this concentrated powder dissolves in water to create the ultimate pad cleaning solution. Detailer’s Pro Series Polishing Pad Rejuvenator quickly releases caked-on polish and wax from foam and lambswool pads, allowing you to get more life out of your buffing pads.

    Initial Product Observations:
The pad washer looks and feels to be made of high quality materials and a nice sturdy design. The lid fits nice and tight, I would have no problem transporting liquid in the car with this product. Since the grit guard and spring loaded base is not one piece, you can remove the base drop the grit guard in and have a wash bucket also, 2 in 1 product, always a good thing.

The pad rejuventor well, not much to say about my initial observation other than it smells really good!

On to the pad washer It comes all put together (not that there would be any assembly really anyway) all you have to do is add water, pad cleaner and screw on the splash guard. I really like this setup and honestly, can not find anything truly wrong with this product at this time. The only thing I would change (and this is personal preference) is it would be nice to have a fill line on the bucket as you are not to fill the bucket more than 1/4" past the grit guard when fully compressed.

I had about four pads that needed cleaning, one Meguiars soft foam 2.0 yellow pads, two Hex Logic orange and one Hex Logic yellow

    Pads before:

Pads after (still wet see below for explanation):

As you can tell the Hex Logic yellow pad came out looking brand new, the orange pads still had a little discoloration left. However, I don't blame this on the pad washer, as I left them sit too long before cleaning the last time I used them, and I forgot to let them soak in the solution for 15 minutes prior. OOOPS, I was just so excited to try the new toy!

Even with the splash guard in place with the PC 7424 on high speed (as per pad washer instructions) I found I still got a lot of splash back, turned it down a couple settings and I was fine.

Your supposed to be able to mostly dry the pads using the grit guard, I can't comment on this right now as I'm still perfecting my technique, however, as I use it more I will do my best to update this thread.

The DP Pad rejuvenator worked really well to clean the pads quickly, only takes about 10-15 seconds per pad to clean, no complaints there at all, however if your pads are really dirty, I would recommend giving the pads a bit extra time.

I would recommend filling the bucket with water, then adding the pad cleaner, I filled it about 1/2 way, added the cleaner filled the rest of the way, got very foamy on me.

Overall very pleased with both the pad washer and the rejuvenator products and would recommend them to anyone.

I'm trying to get the video uploaded now. Once it's uploaded I'll post.

Since this is the first product review of this type I've written, please let me know if there is anything you would like clarified etc.

Oh and thanks again to AG for this awesome giveaway!

Thanks for the review D! That's cool it comes assembled as something made me think they came in pieces.

Can you take a video of yourself rinsing and squeezing a pad hard manually after you cleaned it in the pad washer? I would love to see if it cleans it thoroughly enough for my tastes.

Thanks guys. I've got a video, but it's huge and didn't want to upload last night. I'll try again tonight.

I broke open a new Hex Logic orange pad tonight, dirtied it up a little and gave it a cleaning.

My 4 year old was holding the phone while recording, so I apologize in advance.

As you can see I got most of the moisture out of the pad.

Re: Review: Meguiars Pad Washer & DP Polishing Pad Rejuventor

-Update: I still love this! I used to soak my pad in the bathtub with Oxyclean and dish detergent, then I went to pre-treating with detergent and throwing in the washer with my MF towels. Well, it's been about a month since I detailed the last vehicle and never got around to washing my pads (I KNOW I KNOW!!). Anyway, did the throw everything is the washing machine tonight because a buddy called and wants to bring is wife's car out tomorrow. Anyway, just pulled everything out of the washer, pads don't look like they were touched.

Filled up the pad washer, 10 minutes later I have brand new looking pads. Oh and I've gotten it down to the point where I can get the pads 90-95% dry now.

Hey Dave, still feeling the love for your pad washer? I've been considering one since doing the pads by hand is messy and takes a while. Being a hobbyist, just don't feel like I do enough detailing to justify the cost. Been told it's a case of luxury turned necessity - would you agree with that?

Love it, wouldn't trade it for anything (well except maybe a fully automatic system). Like you I'm a hobbyist also, word advise, clean it out fairly soon after using. I forgot and I've got some pretty thick goo at a the bottom of mine right now!
