I was the same in my last job. We were allowed 10 days sick leave per year, I'd been there 32 years, and had 48 weeks sick leave available to me when I left. I had to be really sick to stay home. One of the guys I worked with had been there less than 10, and used up all his sick leave, than had to have surgery on his hip, the company gave him an extra 2 weeks and let him use 2 weeks annual leave in advance, but he still had to do 3 weeks unpaid. These days though, you have to go with caution, at the slightest symptoms, get tested, and isolate till you get the results.
