Speed 4 or 4.5 on both the G110v2 and the Griot's Garage 6". Used Meguiar's backing plate most of the time. I need to email Meguiar's Customer Care because just yesterday I was using the system and the Meg's backing plate melted and the pad disintegrated. On speed 4.5 on the Griot's! Switched to a Lake Country backing plate, bumped it down to speed 4 - no more problems. I love the results of the Meguiar's system, but their pads do not appear to me to be very well built. Some of my Lake Country pads have been given hell and have held up just fine. Grrrrrr. I would love to give Optimum's new pads a whirl!

Re: Optimum Microfiber pads
I'm still waiting for someone to explain the rotary application of these pads. I thought the reason that no one liked the MF pads on the Flex 3401 was because of the forced-rotation, which would seem to make a rotary doubly bad.

Re: Optimum Microfiber pads
I tried these pads. I found that if you prime them like Meg's, they become way too saturated. I haven't quite figured out how to use them to the best of their ability.

One reason they don't work well on the Flex is due to the grippy nature of microfiber pads. I've heard it can be quite difficult to control the Flex with the Megs system. Wonder if the Optimum ones will work better.

Mark... I think they may be designed for use with the spray polish and compound that OPT offers.

I thought it had something to do with not getting the benefit of the MF because if you don't ocillate the pad one side of the tuft is always matted down against the pad and not on the paint. Part of what makes the MF so effective IIRC is that there is so much more surface area than a foam pad, so you can get a lot more product in contact with the paint, and you lose some of this if you lay the tufts down, which is also the reason you use compressed air to fluff them back up.
