Re: 3401 and wool
Used m101 and the purple hybrid wool pads on a 08 Porsche 911 4 and it cut like a champ. Finished very nice as well. Came back with the Rupes 21 and a green foam pad with SF4500 to finish.

IMO 3M makes the best wool pads.
The one I have nowisabout 7-8 years old, now grant you I don't use it often but works very good on paints that's in horrible shape.
Nothing will cut more that wool.

I use Tuf Buf pads on my 3401. Much better then the LC wool pad with less shedding. Cut is amazing.

Not sure if it makes a huge difference, but there is the option for 1" thickness and 3/4" thickness. Which do you guys think would be better suited on the 3401?

Either will work. I went with 3/4". Feels less "sloppy".
