Re: xc 3401 w/ 6" wool pad?
I wouldn't recommend it. The nap is too long to do much on an DA. You can try Surbuf, Meg's DA Microfiber pads, or Purple foamed wool though.

Hows that purple foamed wool? Does it cut more than a yellow foam?

Yes, more than yellow foam. It was hot for a while...not much talk about it these days with the new microfingers/microfibers out.

Now I'm curious about the 7 1/2" purple wool pad on a Flex 3401. Has anyone ever used this combo?

Re: xc 3401 w/ 6" wool pad?
I wouldn't buy the LC purple wool pad, my flex xc3401 works much better with LC foam pads, orange being first choice for compounding. Every time I try the purple fake wool pads I get back straight away to my ccs or Chem guys hexlogic pads.
Also if you got a flex dont waste your $ with surbuf pads, it hazes like crazy and doesnt cut well. I never tried surbuf/ flex da xc 3401 with m105 thou. I had a small bottle of it and it was so useless I threw it out, it just turned int o dust very quick and cut nothing. Maybe a miracle with surbufs? I never tried but dont believe the flex/ surbuf/ m105 combo.
I imagine a 6.5 inches 100% braided wool pad would work well but with shorter braids like a third of an inch maybe ald also some "cushion"... I cant find it anywhere because it doesnt exist atm.... just my imagination :-)

I believe HarleyGuy recently used the purple foamed wool with the Flex 3401 with good results at the Show Car Garage. Hopefully he will chime in.
