It appears the new 4" plate should be named - Living on the Edge Plate. I am sure that there will be a numerous treads in the near future with scratched/damaged paint with usage of the new LC 4" plate.
Good luck!

It seems like the industry is taking baby steps at achieving a product that the people have asked for for a while now.
First Flex releases the 4-3/8 backing plate, which nobody to this day, really knows what it was designed for.
Now LC releases a 4" backing plate (getting closer here), yet it's still short of achieving that product that can be used with 4" pads.
I really don't understand how Porter Cable and all traditional orbitals have that option, yet they can't make one for such popular machine as the Flex. YES, I know the metal bell housing on the Flex is larger than the other orbitals, but it can still be done fairly easily. I shortened my 5.5" backing plate over a year ago and have been safely using it with 4" pads this entire time. If I can do it with a dremel tool in the basement, how on earth a large company can't do it?

Now the LC flat 4" pads seem to be gone from the AG store... I'm thinking there will be a new 4.25" pad coming soon from LC.

Hmm.. now I am curious if they really are going to make a 4.25" pad for their new system.

Did they ever have 4" flat pads? I've always just seen the 4" CCS and HT pads, but not any regular LC flat pads.

Got them some time ago, but I have flat 4" pads ( Lake Country 4 Inch Low Profile Foam Pads )
and some 4" constant pressure that has a bit of concave shape to it, but it is not the 4" constant pressure CCS pad face.
The only current "small" flat are the HT version and the 3.5" beveled edge pad ( for 2.75" plates not the Flex ).

Re: New LC Flex Plate system
We made prototypes of a 3.5 inch backing plate that I have tested, and after reviewing, we decided to go 4 in for we felt there may be a chance with the design of the machine and how people use it, they could do some damage. We could do any size plate, but felt this was best size.

Yeah...but if 4" pads are gone, those of use that currently use 4" pads on their PC (with a less than 4" backing plate, whatever that diameter is, 3-3/4"?) will have to go to a larger 4.25" pad?

Re: New LC Flex Plate system
I highly doubt LC would come out with a 4.25". I could be wrong.
