Is there a spray-on product that will strip off wax or sealants?

Not really the place to post this, but its not worth creating a new thread.

    Hi Mike,

I went ahead and moved your post out of the How To Choose The Right Wax or Paint Sealant for your Detailing Project thread because it actually is it's own topic.

You can usually get more replies by starting a dedicated thread for a dedicated topic versus tagging onto another thread.

Thank you. I didn't think it was a question worth taking up bandwidth.

It's a great question and deserves it's own thread...

My personal preference to remove any previously applied wax or sealant is to simply use a light polish, this will effectively remove most anything off the surface while restoring a smooth, clean, glossy surface perfect for applying a wax or paint sealant.

Griot's Garage and Menzerna both have products out for wiping surfaces clean, the Griot's product states it will remove polymers, silicones and old wax from paint right on the front label.

The Menzerna product is more for removing compound and polish residue which indicates it's not targeted at removing "protection and lasting ingredients" as most professional grade compounds and polishes are water soluble and wax and silicone free for use in fresh paint environments.

Why no mention of an IPA wipe down? Its cheap and get be picked up at almost every store. Use it full strength or mix it 50/50 with water in a spray bottle.

I appreciate the reply's. I could imagine the look on my wife's face, when she see's that I'm wiping down her brand new ES350 with IPA. Priceless.

A while back, I picked up some Eco WW stuff from AG, but never used it. Read to many unpleasant experiences with it. And now seeing that AG doesn't carry it anymore just reinforces my hesitancy to use it.

If your nervous about using IPA then definitely try this. I use it often, it is very gentle and leaves a squeeky clean finish. (I'm not sure if it will fully remove all sealants though, just not sure)
