Re: Mike, can we get an addition to the grit guard developed??
Seconded on the Home Depot buckets. I have two of them, and the grit guards stay pretty well set on the bottom.

Yes on the Home Depot buckets. Good fit for the guards.
I realized when going through my stock a while back that the best way to do my cars was to just use my multiple mitts and thick nap towels and skip the risk of introducing a contaminated mitt back into the fray.
But, to each his own. There's more than one way to skin a cat.

Danase is long gone, and the Dirt Dropper was not an exclusive to that company. The Dirt Dropper apparently is still made, if a little hard to find. I never got one because I had heard it won't fit in 3.5 gal buckets (too tall), which is what I use.

By the time you get it that deep it'll surely stir up any and all but the heaviest sediment, which ends up back in your mitt. Especially if its a Merino wool unit!!!
Instead I'll rinse well in the top of the rinse bucket and get fresh soap from the top of the soap bucket.
Doing it like that I (quite often) end up with very clean soapy water, enough so that it can be reused. (Or at the very least the paint soap gets poured into thw wheel bucket and a lid put on for next time.)

Some people use two grit guards per buck for this exact reason. If you use two then you can use the higher one to agitate the mitt and help release dirt.

Re: Mike, can we get an addition to the grit guard developed??
The video showed three tests.
- Two Grit Guards on top of each other but off set (This looked to stop debris from floating back up the best)
- Two Grit Guards on top of each other lined up
- Single Grit Guard

I have 2 as well, but you start agitating the bottom of the bucket and believe me, you'll stir up sediment. :eek"

Re: Mike, can we get an addition to the grit guard developed??
It does look like two grit guards offset on top of one another seems to help prevent large particles from resurfacing and potentially getting back on to one's wash mitt. However, I'm not so sure the typical car sheds particles that look like those when being washed. Most of us probably would use a power washer to remove such bulky contaminants. The lighter weight particles that are hard to see yet would scratch the car I suspect would still be suspended.
