    advice for a novice

Hello, im wondering if you can help me. I'm a semi- experienced detailer. I recently bought my first DA polisher and need a bit of help. I bought a few compounds to remove light swirls. To me ive had better results in getting out deep imperfections using cutting compounds. Where I need help is how to fix the light stuff. What's the best polish/wax I need to remove light swirls on a car with little to no oxidation, and other imperfections. I have 3M one step wax/cleaner, 3M rubbing compound, meguiars ultimate, do I need to buy another product? What pad would I need?

Thank you. You're forum, videos, and tips have helped so much!

    Andy

Meguires ultimate polish should do fine removing light swirls. Depends on the paint but should do it. I like lake country hydro tech flat pads. I would start with meguires ultimate polish on an orange pad and if thats not enough bump it up to cyan pads. 4-6 section pass' should do.... remember a small test spot to try a few different tacticts to remove your swirls...

What polisher did u get? I have a Porter cable and normally use a 5.5" pad and 5" backing plate.

    Welcome to AutoGeek Online!!
A test spot is the only way for you to know what will work on a particular paint system. "Use the least aggressive approach to get the job done." Mike Phillips is the man! His articles are an excellent resource.

so, just so I understand. The Ultimate Compound should work fine?

also, i've always been more in favor of wash brushes rather than mitts. Is there any brushes that are as soft as mitts?

I really like Ultimate Compound. Montana Boars Hair Brushes are the only ones I would consider. Since the paint on my truck is extra soft I'm not sure I would use them personally.
