    Birthday Detail - Stacy's Honda

    Birthday Detail - Stacy's Honda

Stacy's birthday is this Wednesday so I promised her I would do that "detail thingy" I do on special interest cars to her Honda.

I buffed out the hood and trunk lid a few months ago because there were holograms from the misuse of a rotary buffer but I never finished the rest of the car so I did that this weekend.

All the horizontal glass had water streaks and stains so I machine polished using the new Pinnacle GlassWork Water Spot Remover, did that first.

Next I washed the car using the new Nanoskin Autoscrub Wash Mitt but here's a tip, wash the car and RINSE it really well first and then use the Nanoskin Autoscrub Wash Mitt.

The reason for this is so after you loose any surface dirt you completely rinse the dirt off the entire car before you go over the paint with the Nanoskin Wash Mitt. By doing this you won't risk getting any loosened dirt trapped between the rubberized polymer surface and your car's paint.

The Nanoskin Wash Mitt worked great for completely removing all the contaminants. I did have to use a plastic razor blade for some tree sap on the hood and front fenders as it was stuck on the paint like epoxy glue.

After washing, rinsing, decontaminating and then rinsing a second time and drying I then taped off all the exterior plastic trim and machine buffed using Menzerna IF 1500 and followed this with Pinnacle XMT 360 Cleaner/Wax.

I kept the process simple, (in my frame of reference), and her car now looks brand new. I also coated the glass with Pinnacle GlassCoat and dressed the tires with CarPro Perl and sprayed the wheels with Meguiar's Brake dust Barrier.

Didn't take any before or process pictures but here's the end results...

These were taken around 5:00pm, what's called the Golden Hour with my Canon...

These were taken with my iPhone 4 right after the detail job...

It's funny, I posted a thread a couple months back about the clay patents, and how they might not be expiring as soon as we all thought. The funny thing is, by the time they expire, I think clay will be passe, what with first Elastrofoam, and now Nanoskin, Speedy Prep and the new Optimum clay replacements.

Hmmm... If I had to guess, I'd say you've done this sort of thing before.

    Looks great!

It's kind of an in-house running joke... me and silver 4-door passenger cars.... This project is long ways from the big block 1969 Camaro I buffed out on Saturday...

One thing for sure, earned me bonus points!

That car looks amazing and nice use of that warm sunset lighting. I avoid taking photos at high noon unless I have to - lighting is key!

I worked with a photographer for a car magazine, can't remember which magazine or the guy off the top of my head...

He told me that about an hour before the sun set is called, the golden hour, and that's when he shoots his car photos. Everything looks good and has a warm sun glow...

Here's the Camaro... it does have the silver color in common with Stacy's' Honda but that's about it...
