I've heard:

Rüps (Like you're German)
Rupéz (Like you're French)
Ru-peas (Like you just smashed open a couple of pots playing Zelda)

I've been calling it Ru-peas for a couple of years now.

Bingo! Dielectric grease is the best solution, however petroleum jelly will work in a pinch.
