Re: DeWalt 849x gets better and better:)
I have the Flex PE-14 and Dewalt. Both are very smooth and quiet, but the sound from the Dewalt is lower pitch, and more tolerable.
There is vast amounts of knowledge at your fingertips, use Google, Youtube, and the search button.

What a enjoyable thread to read. I've been a rotary man for many years and with all of the new products, pads, backing plates and variable speed machines available now you can do anything with a rotary.
I use my 3401 with NanoSkin pads and then pretty much switch to one of my three rotary machines to finish the job.
When one masters a rotary the job gets done so much quicker and IMO easier it's hard not to use one as your go to polisher
The guys that haven't tried to learn on a newer model rotary just don't realize what they are missing.

I found one brand new on Amazon for $156. It included a $25 factory discount. Yes it does sound gravely but I wouldn't choose based on sound.

I have an old school DeWalt 849. It is a BEAST. I LOVE it. I have dropped it a few times over the years and it keeps on truckin. The only reason that I would think about upgrading would be the fact that it weighs around 9 lbs and I would like to go down to 600 rpms to jewel the paint a little better. Also after buffing all day, your forearms can get pretty fatigued. The 849X looks awfully appealing. P.S. It does give you Popye forearms though. lol

Hi everyone, first post on Autogeek. I hope this could be posted here, if not, i apologize in advance.
I've bought a porter xp 7424; i did some detailing car but found it really slow to work it.
A friend recommend buying the DeWalt, and all i can say is wow!!!
It took me a few cars to get used to the rotary, but i found amazing what i can do, since i'm a newbie the detailing, not to mention that i only do this as a hobby.
I leave you some pictures before and after!!

Even though it's a good deal, no mentions of outside retailers.

Re: DeWalt 849x gets better and better:)
I have a 849-X that I put a 4" extension on and use polishing wheels with various rouge for polishing stainless & it does a,pretty good job. Also use it for what it was built for. I have several orbital, machines but always reach for the rotary when it's a big or really bad job because it's just faster. Once you use rotary,it's hard to make orbitals the first choice.
