Got a 7346SP ready to correct some paint

Just got this polisher from Lowes since I did want to wait for a week to have a 7424XP shipped out. As many here know its the same unit but just comes with a 6" sanding plate. At any rate my LC pads and plates just arrived from AG but I have a concern. The 7346 comes with a 6" Counterweight but my plates are 3.5" and 5" for 4" and 5.5" pads. Do I really need a 5" CW or can I get by with the heavier one? I have read many mixed reviews where some say you need it while others prefer the heavier one because it seems to lessen the vibrations. Whatcha think? Oh, will be breaking this bad boy in with my new poorboy polishes and waxes. TIA

I'd say try it and see if it feels good to you. If not, then get the 5" counterweight and try it again.

I use the 6" counterweight for everything.

So, how did you make out with the 6 inch weight? I use 5 inch pads with the 6 inch weight with no issues on my PC 7346 from Lowes. How is the 3.5 inch backing plate working?
