Re: Cool Garage?
i have a portable AC unit i have been trying to get right. I close the door around the exhaust vent but it just doesn't seem to cool it. I might go more industrial sized, this is only 12k btu for a 20-24 garage.

Pop the hood, trunk and open the doors.
Place some box fans or the standing type fans so the blow air over the car.

I tried that to. My garage is uninsulated. The portable unit did absolutely nothing! And I had an air mover to help it out. Even at night it couldnt drop the temp at all!
I just have a few fans to move the warm air around.

I also have a portable unit that I vented under the house. It is completely worthless unless you stand right in front of it

Re: Cool Garage?
Hi Guys,
Mike I do do that, pop the hood etc. FAN. Plus allow the car to cool, outside before parking it in the garage. It can still take 3+ hours, before the heat pump can digest the huge heat load.
What I was looking for (need help) is a ceiling mounted exhaust fan, venting (heat) to the attics, ridge vent, or dedicated duct-ed roof vent.
All so far HVAC local contractors, are not interested in this type of job.
Roofers - will at least look at the job, but seem to get stumped, as this is more industrial than residential, type job.
I've posted here & a HVAC forum:
Any HVAC guys?
0 - replies both.
I figure If I can find the proper, size (CFM & air changes), it will just take me purchasing the unit, then pay for install. Most likely roofer.
In addition to being my "Man Cave", I run a small business, repairing computers.
Oh! Just thought of this while typing, If I back the car in the heat source is closer, to the garage door, which would lessen the load on the fan. *I'll have to be careful about backing up into a computer* LOL.
Thanks
Rico

Re: Cool Garage?
Hi Redxray
Yes we did, & you mentioned box fan, for heat removal, from hot ride. That does not work real well for me.
Still looking for a proper sized, ceiling exhaust fan.
My heat pump is a Goodman one ton.
Nice looking garage!

Re: Cool Garage?
I insulated my garage, and it really does help with the temperature control. Always cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Additionally, I had a general contractor install a ceiling exhaust fan that is temperature controlled (rheostat). I have it set to start churning at 85 degrees.
You might also work to cool the garage based on airflow principles. I will have the garage door open and the entry door open (opposite end of the garage) and place fans to assist with airflow through the garage.
You could also hose things down before pulling in and going to work.
Perfection is attained by slow degrees; it requires the hand of time. (Voltaire)
