    Weird groove in Backing Plate

I bought the FLEX XC 3401 VRG Mini (4 3/8") backing plate for my Flex. I have used it a couple times now without out any issues.

But last time I used it I smelled something burning. I have not smelled this before using my Flex, period.
So I stopped, let the Flex cool for a bit, then took the backing plate off...

The outer ring of the backing plate now has a ring "grooved" in to it... almost like it's not clearing the top of the Flex itself.
I feel like I need to add an extra washer or something?

I will have to take a picture when I get home.

    Anyone else experience this?

Is it the felt ring wearing into the plastic? Mike Phillips has a thread about oiling it...

    It's possible....

I did buy air tool lube for just this reason. The felt ring is pretty dry at this point. I've never lubed it up before since I've had the Flex.

I've never lubed mine either, but I'm still on the stock backing plate.
