Question Lake Country Hydro-Tech Pad Discoloration?

    Hello everyone,

I recently purchased some hydrotech pads from autogeek and I wanted to know if pad discoloration is normal. I bought 4 cyan cutting pads and 2 of them look yellowish. The pad looks normal colored near the Velcro backing but becomes yellowish on the face of the pad. A friend of mine says that it is normal for foam pads that have been sitting around for a while to have a yellowish discoloration. Is this normal? Will the discoloration affect the way it performs? I wanted to get your opinions before I contacted autogeek for an exchange. Thanks in advance for the responses.

I'm new to autogeekonline and detailing. I've gained a lot of knowledge in the past few months from AGO and wanted to thank everyone for contributing.

    Cheers,

    Jay

Jay, I have not seen or heard of the pads being disolored when you buy them new. The discoloration won't have any affect but whatever caused the discoloration may. I would contact them and ask for an explanation as to why they are yellow. If theres not a reasonable explanation and you won't be satisifed with them then they will exchange them I should think. Let us know what the deal was if you can... Maybe there will be some further posting that explains this and renders my post moot. Can you post a picture?

I am at the point now that the only foam pads that I use are the Hydrotech pads, and I have never witnessed this.

Sounds like it's been exposed to UV light.

And if its UV light that caused it to lighten then I would think it would have also weakened the foam to some extent. Enough to noticeably actually change the rate of deterioration? I don't know.
