Chrome wheels
Hello all. I have a question. I will be doing a full detail on my car in a few weeks. I have 18" chrome wheels. Once the wheels are clean and shiny I would like to coat them so brake dust doesn't stick to them like glue. Will WGDGPS work as well on a chrome wheel as it does on the paint? If so will it last as long?

Sealant can withstand heat pretty good. I use WGDGPS on my wheels with much success. I usually coat them once a season. My car is garaged most of the time but if your talking daily driver you might be looking at 6 weeks protection. Prep is everything just like on your paint. There are wheel Products out there but I have WGDGPS so I dual purpose it. Great product! Good luck

Re: Chrome wheels
I've been using DP Wheel Seal. I used to use a 2-part system from American Racing Wheels. (Polish, remove. Sealant, remove). It was good, but took a long time to do the wheels. I'm good with the DP wheel seal, and it doesn't take as long. I put it on 2 - 4 times a year.

Re: Chrome wheels
Thanks guys. I will Wolfgang them. I also have the sealant and will just coat the wheels and see how it holds up. Just didn't want to waste my time if the sealant wouldn't bond to the chrome

Re: Chrome wheels
The sealant will bond, and you'll like the look. Personally, I've found the durability with paint sealants to be a little disappointing, at least in relation to the effort involved. That said, I remain a big fan of Poorboys wheel sealant. Cheap, goes on and comes off very easily, and in my experience, offers about 2 - 3x the durability of Four Star UPP, which...also in my experience....is more durable than DGPS. Good luck...

Re: Chrome wheels
Decided to clean the wheels today. Very disappointed. All four wheels have chrome peeling in the barrel and three are peeling in the hub hole. It won't be long until that reaches the face. So no more serious work on these wheels. It is a losing proposition.

Too bad. What do you plan to do next?

Re: Chrome wheels
I am gonna call Cadillac and ask them to warranty them. I am well out of warranty but this is a known problem. I already know that they are going to decline me but I figure no harm in asking. I might just get lucky. Otherwise I think I am going to go aftermarket. New factories are too much and rechroming will cost almost as much. Plus I will have to figure out what I will do while the wheels are out getting chromed. But whatever I do will only be after the chrome starts peeling on the face
