Plastik Surface Sealant vs Paint Sealant 3.0

Getting ready to do a headlight repair job. After reading several articles on here, I really think I'm going to forego the off the shelf kit in a box and get the appropriate sand papers I need. I want to get some pics of the lights and maybe start a thread getting recommendations on which paper to use. Already have plenty of polish and compounds to finish them off...have seem some really stellar jobs on headlights with Meguiars 105/205.

Anyways...My current AG credit limit won't allow for the things I want to get plus $60 or Opti Seal 2.0. Someone recommended Plastik Surface Sealant as doing a good job protecting headlights short term. I have a bottle of 3.0. Is the plastik sealant the better option or is the 3.0 going to do just as good a job?? Thanks for any help.

A few of the detailing sites have reported good results using a 50/50 mixture of Helmsman clear spar varnish and mineral spirits on headlights. Mix together and apply with a paper shop towel(the blue one). Good luck!

What PoppaJ stated is an option. Do a search and read the posts on Helmsman. (You may have already run across it since you said you have been reading up on this subject.)
I agree with your thinking that you don't need to buy a kit. (The only nice thing about the kits is that you get a drill attachment rather than sanding by hand.) Get several grits of wet sandpaper (500, 800, 1500, 3000) then use 105 and 205. That should give you the desired finish. If you just want a short term solution you can simply wax them and apply sealant in a couple of months. I used this process and waxed with Collinite 845. I plan to seal them soon but they have held up perfectly so far. Good luck.
