2011 Mercedes (Other guy wet sanded too far)

I have a customer coming in this weekend with his 2011 Mercedes E350. Ive inspected the car and found that someone has tried to wet sand it in many areas but on the front bumper they sanded all the way through the clear. I want to fix this for him. I have some experience painting vehicles but i wanted your opinion. Would I be able to wet sand the area as well as a bit further and then feather in my clear, or does it need a repaint?

Also, Would a wax a grease remover harm OEM Base Coat?

    Thanks,
    Jake

In Renny Doyle's book on starting your own detailing business I have three sections.

One of the sections Renny asked me to share with the read that if I could do it all over again what would I change. In that section I talk about,

    Cherry Picking

That is the learned art of turning work down.

If you don't have his book, get it and read it.

Instead of taking on the hardest jobs that often times pay the least and offer the least reward, go after the jobs that are the easiest, pay the best and offer the most reward.

I know it's easy to take anything that comes along but picking up where some other guy left off and has already caused major damage sounds like a recipe for disaster.

My buddy Paul has a custom car shop where they build streetrods and paint cars and he won't "guarantee" a job that has been painted by someone else unless he can sand down to factory primer or the body panel because otherwise he would have to guarantee his work and the other guy's work and that's a recipe for disaster.

Unless you're hungry for work I'd let someone else have the blessing....

And like asked before? Is this a Ceramiclear finish?

Thanks Mike, and thanks OP for coming with this thread.

I've faced a similar situation recently and the answer quoted above is the best answer for my doubts at that time.

I need to improve in 'Cherry Picking', but also order Renny's book and read it from cover to cover.

    Best Wishes.

My personal opinion and no offense but I also paint a little bit and alot of what I do painting is trial and error, in my opinion if you have to ask a forum what to do for touching up or repainting, you probably shouldn't try it on an 11 Mercedes. You should be experimenting with junk yard panels. Send it on to a pro it will save you trouble in the future guaranteed.

Im not experimenting, ive painted my personal vehicles before and have touched up others. I just simply had a couple questions because i know how im going to do it, but i was seeing if someone had a "life changing" way of doing it.

    Thanks for your .02 though

I did the body work, painted, sanded, and buffed my old trans am.

Ok sorry. You just made it sound like you've painted one or two things and didnt have experience. I just stay away from painting for other people either way.
