    Wet Sand Front Bumper?

Will wet sanding my front bumper on my 2009 Civic Si help with the paint?

Right now it is rough to the touch and pitted from road debris. Will wet sanding do anything or should I just get it repainted?

Hey Kevin I will get in contact with you tomorrow just saw your message.

I would try claying the bumper first and saw what that does. I would shy away from wet sanding as there is much risk involved when it comes to wet sanding. Im also assuming that the bumper is a factory paint job still?

Avoid wet sanding the bumper. Paint is thinner here an other places. Usually it's a plastic or composit material and it doesn't disapate heat like steel panels.

If the roughness is due to road rash clay irst then add touch up paint and see where you stand. Next step would be sanding.

Awesome, thanks Evan! Just getting some idea's!

I think that it is the factory. I really do not have any knowledge of any paint work, or detail work done to the car.

I just recently (last week) wet sanded the bumpers on my 2013 Honda Accord to remove the orange peel, and the paint was definitely thicker there than it is on other areas. It also took a lot longer due to the flex agent in the paint.

While it may remove (or at least reduce) the existing pitting, it isn't going to prevent future pitting as Honda paint is soft to begin with... In fact, it will likely make it more susceptible to pitting.

Is the risk worth the reward? I wouldn't wet sand it. Touch up the pitting as best you can, then live with it, or get it resprayed.

In my overly OCD case, yes. For others, probably not. Honda orange peel tends to be worse on the bumpers than other areas, yet they tend to turn out better than other areas when wet sanded.

The pits aren't chips that can be touched up, plus there can be so many that it could actually look worse. These pits are usually caused by bugs impacting the bumper.

    Re: Wet Sand Front Bumper?

I had to wet sand a couple of Honda's, I find the paint to be very thin so take warning.
