How Far Does Paper Go???

So going to order some Meguiars unigrit sand paper to do a headlight cleanup. Planning on ordering a few sheets of 1000, 2000, and 3000 to do in progressive steps...I don't think I need anything heavier than 1000. Are those good progressive steps to take, or do you guys recommend different grits during the process?

So if these sheets are 9 x 5 1/2, how long do they effectively last? One or two sheets per headlight?

The lights aren't horrible (I can get some pics up tonight) but they certainly do need some work. There's no peeling or anything that I can grab with a fingernail, but there are some pretty hazy spots. Thanks guys.

I'm not a headlamp resto expert, but from the looks of what you have you'll be good IMO. On really nasty lights you might drop down to 800

You'll know when the paper wears out. It will lose that loving feeling

Oh, it also helps to blowout the paper as you work to remove debri

I did both of my headlights (see my avatar). They weren't horrible but needed some help. I used the 3M kit which came with 500, 800, and 3000 Trizact. I used one 3 inch circle of each grit per light. If you get one sheet of 500, 800, maybe 1500, and 3000 you will be all set. I also used M105 and then M205 and finished with Colonite 845. I plan to put a sealer on them soon. (You can get some grit sizes in Wally World.)

I buy the larger 9 1/2" X 11" sheets and cut them down to 6 pieces. One cut widthwise and two lengthwise. I use one piece per light but also use a few other grades.

1000 or 1500 either one, then to 3000 is a good step?? No need for 2000 in between?

1500 was the strongest I had last weekend and I THOROUGHLY regretted that fact... I agree with Flash, get some 800 as well just in case. And better to have a little extra of each than to run out.
