What is this on the paint?

They look like half circles a bunch of them together in different spots. They were hard to notice until i looked closely. They kinda look like this )( ( )

Anybody know what is it? I know is not orange peel i thought it was but is not. It doesnt have a texture either.

Looks like either bird crap etching or clear coat that's starting to crack to me.

Is it on one of your vehicles? Looks like sanding marks left from a DA sander. Can you catch a finger nail on them? Looks like the could be removed by wet sanding and compounding. Would test the thickness first though, or be very carefully if you don't know the history of the paint.

Looks like DA sanding marks (pigtails) to me. More than likely, the painter sanded an area and a piece of debris forced under the pad, causing the unique (((( pattern.

Or, it could be a form of checking.

Re: What is this on the paint?

Is that Japanese paint? If so, the clear coat can be soft and can have dents (not so much scratches) instilled in it from debris getting trapped under a buffer pad, MF, applicator, or just in general from daily use. Happened on my Subaru STi and they are hard to remove with out removing a good bit of clear coat. If it is a Japanese car I would try compounding first and if that reduces the marks pretty good, I would live with it unless you feel confident wet sanding and know how much paint you have to work with.

That's what I thought they were as well.

Prob clear coat failure or bird etching. When this happens do you just tell the customer there nothing can be done unless you want to repaint it?

Re: What is this on the paint?

Well this is a Dodge Red Hood i picked up from the junk yard to practice on.

I dont feel it with my finger nail so therefore i am pretty sure i can remove them.

If is clear coat failure or pigtails it can be removed right?

my plan is to clay it, color sand 1K first then even it out with a 1500

Polish it out then sealant then wax
