Abralon vs. 3M sanding disks?

For those who do wet-sanding often(with a DA), what are your opinons on the Abralon vs. 3M sanding disks? Or any others for that matter.

Currently I use 3M 1500 followed by the 3000 trizac disks, but I've noticed a lot of people using the Abralon. Always looking for ways to improve my process!

I started a dedicated thread for you for your topic!


I haven't tired the new foam backed 3M sanding discs but will as soon as I can get to them. I've used the non-foamed flat discs and they are a very good sanding and the cut can be somewhat controlled by using an interface pad between the DA Sander and the disc depending upon what you're trying to do.

Since Abralon introduced their foam backed discs I've gravitated towards them in the past.

Both work great but with the 3M system all their Velcro backings are backwards than everyone else's which forces you to purchase their system and stay inside it so just be aware of that one little thing.

I really like finishing with #4000 grit as the paint doesn't even look sanded, it just looks dull and buffs out as easy as a summer breeze.
