I'll simply buff off the polish and go straight

Disagree 100%. If you're not removing polishing oils via panel wipe in your test spot, you're not revealing the true finish of the paint.

I use Optimum Paint Prep all the time before I apply any lsp to any car
Back to the full-time grind.

IPA(even when diluted with water) is way too grabby and can micro-marr the finish.

Not a good idea, as polishes will fill micro-marring and you're not getting the true finish. At least do a test spot and use a panel wipe to remove polishing oils and hope the rest of the car has the same paint system. I do one test spot with panel wipe on every panel to make sure I'm getting the finish desired.
Throw a little ONR in with your IPA/water mixture, takes care of much of the grabby issue.

Dumb question, I have a bottle of Gtehniq Panel wipe for like 4-5 years now.
Have never used it. But want/need to use it now. Should still be okay right ?
They don't go bad, do they ?
