I've been contemplating doing the exact same thing but using a 6 bulb T-8 fixture like the ones I installed in my shop.

those 6 bulb units are really nice, but from what i find, theyre like 5x the price of a 2bulb unit.

im going to assume hes using t-5's

Ill be making something like this soon, im currently looking into some sort of swivel/rotate/angle small LCD mount that can mount to the pole and hold the light to allow for different angles.

Here's a stand that I found last night at the big box. The light fixture should mount right to the flat part and allow for plenty of light angle and height adjustment.
