I was contacted by a friends father to do his E90 M3. He had let his 11 year old son Scotchbrite the whole damn thing! And the owner, despite my humble advice, is insistent on not using my PC, he had heard from "his good car buddies" that a buffer would mess up the clear coat.

Run!!! run as fast as your two little feet will take you.
if u are called to fix a car than you are in charge , you are the one who can do it and has the right tools and knowledge. if u don`t manage that than find another job that gives you enough confidence in your skills to sell your service.
even if the detail by hand it takes you a day/two , u will be trash whole week so charge him for a week an a half of worth.
I hope everyone else who asks for help/opinion in the future would try the darnedest to let the good samaritans know the current events of his/her concern given a certain span of days. I wish this is part of the basic rules of good manners in all forums.
After running the da foam pad on the hand, also ask to gently and slowly turn a scotchbrite on his palm. Maybe he'll feel the safety of the foam pad. If then he still doesn't get the Logic, it's time to move away.
