Clay VS Clay Substitute & Micro Marring
I've got one quick shot to clay a brand new Subaru, for free for my mother, and have both clay and a substitute and need to know which will produce less marring given that both grades of each are equal.
I'm only asking those who have extensive use with both, or have clayed a new Subaru.
Thank you.

There should be no marring with either if done properly.

Either OCW or a waterless wash.

And we would all have world peace, if we would love each other just right.

Clay. And you are going to
polish afterwards, amiright?
I always polish after claying...even
if it's only using a very light polish.

If I could, but I probably will not get the chance to. I washed her car today, its first wash ever, and I could feel the contamination through my drying towel that was damp.
I would love to do all the right things, but she only visits for brief periods while dropping-off, or picking-up the grand kids.

Re: Clay VS Clay Substitute & Micro Marring
My experience with Subarus (I've done full corrections on 5 of them so far) is that they are all incredibly soft - my guess is no matter what you use you are going to see some decent marring.... I wouldn't advise claying (whatever medium you use [bar/mitt/towel/sponge]) without planning at least 1 polishing step afterwards.

Poly clay would be your best bet in your situation.
