I'll join the chorus of those voting clay.
I attempted to use a clay substitute for a while and despite various choices of lubes being used at various amounts, I always ended up with far more marring with the substitute vs traditional clay. I too agree with Lawrence and his comment about needing to polish after even using clay. On our Toyota even when using clay and very liberal amounts of lube, I'll still get slight hints of marring which will need to be polished out.
