When I moved to SoCal in 1971 my first job was detailer at Herman Cook VW in Encinitas.
Learned to used a buffer the hard way.
Made ALL the rookie mistakes including wrapping the power chord around the spinning shaft and shocking myself so badly I couldn't take my finger off the switch.
One of the VW line mechanics saw it happen and yanked the chord from the wall.
Everyone seemed entertained.
I kept them laughing the first time a windshield wiper arm whipped me like a red-headed stepchild.
Detailing is in my blood because I donated my blood.
