GarageJournal is a very useful site.

Are you talking about redoing the whole garage or just your detailing supplies? Either way, Sears has some pretty nice cabonets, workbenches, and other storage supplies that you may want to check out. Also, you should redo the floor if you are going all out, nice garage floors look so sweet!! Either the black and white checkers or the grey with the colored paint chips look cool IMO.

I would add Race-deck or a colored mat to liven it up and make it more useful. Repainting a light color and shelving would be next step.

I believe this is what I'll get whenever I do mine (tax return money) in March. Looks nice, easy to clean, non slip, etc.

I personally would look for cabinets to hide things, and keep a neat appearance. Shelves are good, but you can still see all the CRAP! lol

I've been looking in to doing the same thing in our garage. Although our garage is clean we don't have convenient storage. Our friends think we're crazy when we say we want to organize our garage because they always say that our garage is cleaner than most peoples' houses. Here's a link to a place that has some good options in different price ranges. Look around on the web there are tons garage storage options and good places to at least get some idea of what you may be looking for. http://www.u-sav.com/garagestoragedirect/

The roll out coin patterned flooring as pictured above did not hold up for us. We had Motorcycle kickstands, tooling and other things puncture & tear this flooring. We also had some Race-deck tiles to test out, but the problem with them was that any fluids we spilled went right underneath the tiles and left a mess underneath, some of which etched into and damaged the concrete. Both of these options are great for many people, but definitely do some thinking and research before jumping in.

We ended up with epoxy flooring, but there are all kinds of gotchas with epoxies in terms of types, grades, quality, preperations, etc. Testing the concrete for moisture is vital if you want to minimize the chance of problems down the road. Ideally, the concrete should be sealed with a product that reacts with lime. Correctly cleaning / prepping the concrete is essential to minimize the chance of the epoxy peeling off down the road. If you do look into epoxy flooring and want the really good stuff, then look for a two component self leveling 100% solids non-blushing cycloaliphatic amine cured phenol novolac epoxy. This type of epoxy provides excellent protection in extremely hostile environments when factors such as heat, chemical and abrasion factors are concerned. While you won't find this high of quality product at Home Depot, you don't have to look too far because your local paint supplier may be able to get you this kind of product. Or you can simply google for this type of product and I'm sure you'll find plenty of companies offering this type of high quality epoxy.

For the average homeowner with simple needs in their garage / shop, the roll on vinyl flooring as pictured above is about as easy as it gets and it's tough stuff for normal use. It also comes in different thicknesses (up to ~0.85 mill) and you can order it in custom sizes if you don't mind paying the premium for it. It's a very good solution for many people, but look at it carefully if you're planning to use it in a harsher environment.

For some serious work benches and cabinets at a great price, take a look at Sam's club. I haven't found these products on the Sam's web site, but I've seen them in the stores and bought some of their industrial work benches made by Seville that have a 1.75" maple butcher block top on a steel powder coated frame and they're really nice for $200 each. They also have matching rolling cabinets from the same manufacturer for ~$150 each and they're stackable. They also offer a really nice rolling stainless steel topped tall work stand for ~$125. And they also offer a nice $48 chromed wire steel 3 shelf rolling cart that works very well for detailing. The Sam's club number of this heavy duty rolling utility cart is "135623" and I've seen people selling this exact same cart on eBay for up to $150! These items are made overseas, but the quality & fitment of the pieces for the workbenches and cabinets are excellent for anything close to this price range.
