my last post of a black silverado headlight resto, i did it for free. the owner of the black truck i did used the heat gun and bottle cap to remove the striping while i sanded and buffed. took us both a total of an hour and a half. he didnt have near as much work as i did, lol. but he saved me a lot of time.
and hes the Director Of Operations at the bike shop i work at, where we did this, so i hooked him up with the headlight resto for letting me use the mechanics bay whenever i want to do stuff to my truck. i can even use it to detail other cars if i want. its heated.
takes about 5 min to heat that place up and about 30 min for the car to be all warm on the metal!

Its looking good. Cant wait to see the finished product. Something I use to remove pinstriping is a 3M eraser wheel on a drill. Its safe, easy to use and extremely quick.

Are you near Denver? If so, send me a PM. If not, do you have a Harbor Freight nearby? They are a great heat gun that's inexpensive.

yah, hell, a nice heat gun is 15 bucks to do this. a hair dryer will work too, just take a few seconds longer. use a plastic bottle cap, or a plastic raazorblade from AG to remove the stripe after its heated up. If you have a very aggressive polish, like Megs 105, you prolly wont need to wetsand. i had to b/c i only had Menzerna SIP. which is aggressive, but not enough for this. 105 would prolly be good.
i miss the color of that truck! my new one is soo much nicer tho, lol!
or get a 3M eraser wheel for a drill, thatll be even quicker!!! and the same price as the heat gun, if not cheaper.
