    PinStriping Removed

Well, i removed the pinstriping, then wetsanded with 3000 grit to blend it in b/c the paint underneathe is damn near perfect b/c the stripe was put on at the factory in 98.

    - First I wiped down the truck (around the striping) with Bike Spirits Bike Spray and Wipe Polish

    - heat gun and bottle cap to remove pinstripe

    - microfiber towel and adhesive remover for the sticky crap

    - wetsand with drill and 3" buff attachment from 3M headlight kit with 3000 grit foam pad

    - buffed with drill and 3M Buff pad from 3M headlight kit and Menzerna SIP.

    Here is the aftermathe!!!!

Looks insane in the light!! after seeing this in the light like this, i CANNOT wait to buf this truck!! def going to get a rotary to do the SIP with on my truck!!

i may end up wetsanding my entire truck after the difference it made. Using just the SIP on the drill for an extended period of time didnt cut it. When wetsanded, made a HUGE difference!! I may do the truck just one panel at a time with 3000 grit and then SIP (if i dont have the time to do it all, like an entire weekend plus a week, lol. Then when its all done, ill wash it and then use Menzerna Nano Finish Polish with my DA XP. ill do all this after i remove the molding and the small SILVERADO emblems on the ext cab.

Before... how the paint looked after i removed the striping and sticky crap, but before any sanding.

wetsand haze on the right, buffed on the left!

    like the reflection!! lol

    bed complete

everything needed!!! lol "i drink so much they call me charlie 40 hands"

my last post of a black silverado headlight resto, i did it for free. the owner of the black truck i did used the heat gun and bottle cap to remove the striping while i sanded and buffed. took us both a total of an hour and a half. he didnt have near as much work as i did, lol. but he saved me a lot of time.

and hes the Director Of Operations at the bike shop i work at, where we did this, so i hooked him up with the headlight resto for letting me use the mechanics bay whenever i want to do stuff to my truck. i can even use it to detail other cars if i want. its heated.

takes about 5 min to heat that place up and about 30 min for the car to be all warm on the metal!

Its looking good. Cant wait to see the finished product. Something I use to remove pinstriping is a 3M eraser wheel on a drill. Its safe, easy to use and extremely quick.

Are you near Denver? If so, send me a PM. If not, do you have a Harbor Freight nearby? They are a great heat gun that's inexpensive.

yah, hell, a nice heat gun is 15 bucks to do this. a hair dryer will work too, just take a few seconds longer. use a plastic bottle cap, or a plastic raazorblade from AG to remove the stripe after its heated up. If you have a very aggressive polish, like Megs 105, you prolly wont need to wetsand. i had to b/c i only had Menzerna SIP. which is aggressive, but not enough for this. 105 would prolly be good.

i miss the color of that truck! my new one is soo much nicer tho, lol!

or get a 3M eraser wheel for a drill, thatll be even quicker!!! and the same price as the heat gun, if not cheaper.
