This 2013 Nissan Altima is my daily driver. It's never saw Clay or a Machine Polish. Just basic car washes over the last year that I've had it.
I'm new to detailing and just got my first clay bar kit (Meguiars) and recently purchased a PC and got an array of pads (mainly Orange, Green, Black).
I wanted to test the waters on my car before using on a customers vehicle. I picked up HD speed and Collinite 845.
The pictures don't do the paint justice of just how wrecked it is. But here's a couple from before claying.
I washed the car with Hyper wash and went ahead with the clay just on the hood. I broke one of the two clay bars into three pieces and kneaded it flat. I aired on the side of caution and lubricated the heck out of the paint while claying. Get ready for this, this is just a 2X2 section of claying...
I couldn't believe it. I continued to clay the entire hood and once finished, the hood looked 5X better already!
I started off with the least abrasive and tried HD Speed with a Green CCS Pad and gave my first section a go.
I realized after inspecting the area that A: I need to step it up to an Orange pad and B: possibly even use a more abrasive compound if the Orange pad doesn't cut it.
I also plan on doing an Iron X treatment on the entire vehicle before I progress any further and will clay after to get any of the stubborn stuck on particles imbedded in the clear coat up and out of there.
I finished the remainder of the hood for today and was pleasantly surprised with the results.
I learned a LOT today and am sure I will continue to do so.
