As far as the products you used, they are very high quality items and it shows. Now when you said you spent 2.5 hrs, what part of the process took that long? How long did the entire car take?
Yes what I should have said was I wasn't using a high quality polisher. I bought a Harbor Freight DA just because I was curious, now I'm hooked. The pads are also from HF but they seem to be giving the results I'm looking for, I hope to upgrade soon.
Forgot to clarify, the clay bar part took me 2.5hrs! There was rail dust around the entire car about up to the door handles. The entire exterior took me around 5.5hrs I would say. Thanks much! Appreciate it. All the love makes me want to take PTO and go do another one!

Thanks everyone! I think he realized now how nice his car can actually look. Hopefully other coworkers become interested as well.

Re: 2007 GTI: Never Washed
The HF DA is a great machine, but its backing plate and the HF pads should be replaced immediately. The polisher itself should serve you very well.
Grab a lake country 5" backing plate and some 5.5" flat pads. (or whatever pad you like, but these are economical and deliver great results). Microfiber pads will offer additional cut but starting with foam is a great idea.
Great job on this car! Top quality work and products deliver quality results.

I agree it has served me well. Thanks for the tips about the backing plate and pads, I'll upgrade to those and then maybe graduate to microfiber. Appreciate the support!

Nice work.
For rail dust, in the future you might want to check out IronX. That would have saved you a ton of time and been fun to watch go to work on that white car!

So in what scenarios do you use IronX? How would it make it easier? I assume it loosens the raildust and makes for easier removal? Does this work on yellowed wheels?

I use Iron X on almost every car I am going to clay. It reacts with the iron in the paint contaminants.

Love Iron X when doing white cars. It's cool watching turn purple.
