2007 Acura TL corrected and coated with CQuartz

A friend of mine asked me if I could help make his daily driver 2007 Acura TL look any better. After inspecting the paint and discussing his budget, we decided on a one step polish and CQuartz application. His trunk was horribly scratched up so I offered to do a little extra work to get it looking nice again.

    Products used:

    • 2 bucket wash with MTM foam cannon and Iron X Snow Soap
    • Chemical decontamination with Iron X Iron Remover
    • Mechanical decontamination with Nanoskin Autoscrub mitt
    • Dried with Dry Me a River microfiber towel and Metro Vac N' Blo
    • Machine polished with a Flex 3401, Lake Country orange Hybrids, and Menzerna PF2500
    • Wiped down twice with CarPro Eraser
    • Paint coated with CarPro CQuartz
    • Tires and trim dressed with Ultima Tire & Trim Guard
    • Headlights coated with Optimum Opti-Lens Permanent Headlight Coating
    • Wheels and glass coated with Pinnacle Black Label Diamond Surface Coating

After washing and drying, I took some photos of the paint condition before getting to work. Below you can see the damage on the truck that required damp sanding.

The rest of the car was a swirled out mess.

I managed to remove almost every little defect out of the trunk with a Meguiar's 3000 Unigrit disc and distilled water. Once the scratches were leveled and I was left with a uniform haze, I polished out the sanding marks with FG400 and followed up with PF2500.

The rest of the car was corrected with PF2500 and orange Lake Country Hybrids.

I then wiped the car down twice with CarPro Eraser and applied the CQuartz.

We let the car spend the night since it was pouring rain outside by the time I finished up.

Unfortunately the next day was overcast, but the rain had stopped so I brought the car out for some photos.

The rear bumper had been repainted a few days ago, so I promised to coat it for him later after giving it a chance to outgas. I also promised to polish and coat the exhaust tips for him.

Although it stopped raining, I managed to snap a little beading teaser from some water that fell from the trees.

And here's a shot from the day after when the sun was out.

That's all I got. Thanks for looking and happy holidays everyone!

Are you using a 21 or 15 for damp sanding? And how do you like the Rupes for sanding purposes?

    21. It works well for damp sanding. Very smooth and easy to control. I usually operate at speed 2 or 3.

In the words of LL Cool J, "Dont call it a comeback, I been here for years."

I will admit I'm bias when it come to black paint, when I see paint in these conditions come back, I know I'm winning.

I will admit some of you dude are pretty damn good!!!

Quick question - obviously your knee deep in this car, is it distracting to have to stop and take pics?? I'm sure you take several of each shot to get the money shot!! I would be so focused on my work I'd take one pic and forget all about the camera....
