Testing Gtechniq C4 Permanent Trim Restorer on my 300zx

I had a bottle of Gtechniq's C4 Permanent Trim Restorer laying around so I figured I'd give it a go on my 300zx and share my thoughts. The weatherstripping around the rear window was pretty tired looking and created a nasty distraction from the glossy paint on the hatch.

I started off by masking the surrounding glass and paint. I know this probably wasn't necessary, but it only took me 10 minutes and I felt safer applying the product.

After cleaning the trim with IPA, I used the included cotton applicators and evenly distributed a few drops of the product onto the trim. The bottle design is very similar to CQuartz. This stuff really smells intense.

I then wiped the trim clean with a microfiber towel and checked for any high spots or left over residue.

I suppose I'll see how permanent this stuff really is over time. The amount of product you get in the bottle isn't much, but a few drops of this stuff really goes a long way. I'm happy with the results.

    Nice quickie review!

I may try this in the spring, but I'm wondering if I should try Dlux first...

I've used Dlux as well. They are very similar, even down to the bottle/nozzle. Both seem to have good darkening qualities. Dlux comes with better applicators in my opinion but you can't really go wrong with either product.

Nice review. Did you happen to capture any 50:50 shots?

Unfortunately no, but I wish I did. I covered the trim in one go since the instructions said it must be wiped immediately after application.

Did 1 bottle of 15ml only do this one strip?

I've had C4 on the hard plastics of both of my car for over 2 years and they are still going strong. Certainly not as dark as day 1, but still a dressed look.

The 15ml did all the trim on both of my cars, plus bits and pieces of a few other cars. This stuff really does go a long, long way.

It should be noted that after being opened, it will only last a few months, maybe 6 tops before it has hardened to the point of being unusable. Placing some cling wrap between the bottle and cap during storage will help, but it's not going to allow you to store it indefinitely. So unless you have a lot of plastic or several cars to do, just get the 15ml.

So it lasts longer than DLux?

Still looks great, even after a lot of driving in the rain. This car is garage kept though. Also, this was the 30ml not the 15ml, but I barely had to use any product from the bottle for this small strip. I'd say there was still 95% of the product left after application. I ended up using the rest on a customer's truck.
