Sonic Blue 2002 GT - 2-stage paint correction and Americoat

So I picked up another mustang last week. It is a 2002 GT with a really nice interior, however the exterior is pretty hammered. It has Cobra wheels, front bumper, and a Cobra R hood. Also has a BBK X pipe with flowmaster exhaust and is lowered on H&R springs. It is a really good 10'er.

Picture the night I brought it home.

So I parked it in front of my garage and when the motion lights came on the true condition of the paint came out, which I knew wasn't good.

Sorry these are all crappy cell phone pics

I drove it like this for 2 days and couldn't take it anymore. So did a quickie detail on it Friday night.

As usual the first step in my process was to give the car a foam pre-soak using Chemical Guys Citrus Wash and Clear and mixed with some Megs. Super Degreaser.

I followed this up with a quick 2 bucket method wash, followed by a quick wash with my Nanoskin Fine washmit.

At this point I had a nice clean surface to work with, which is in really poor shape. I am doing this to buy me some time before I decide to have it repainted at some point.

So after being washed I backed it in the garage closed things up and turned the AC on and got to work. I didn't take many more before pics since I didn't want to waste much time. Here is the last before picture.

I then got out my Rupes 15 and Amerirocks on a microfiber cutting pad and got to work on the cutting. Here are a few 50/50 shots from the cutting phase.

And a picture of the hood. Whoever painted this hood did a very poor job.

So after finishing up the cutting I proceeded to polish the car with a green Buff & Shine pad and Ameridepth. The car was then pulled outside and washed again, then pulled back in the garage and wiped down with CarPro Eraser to fully clean and prep the surface for Americoat.

I need to get some after shots which I haven't done yet other then when I pulled it out in the sun to cure. I will post up some more pics when I get them.

These are the products I used on the paint.

Really I didn't spend much time on it, only a few hours. I wasn't going for perfect as the paint is really in pretty poor shape still.
