    Uncle Jeff's first real challenge

    Hi all,

Uncle Jeff is my neighbor (not my uncle) who helps me out at the shop, usually cleaning interiors and doing washes on rental returns. This is usually very quick work as there's not much in the budget for cleaning them. Typically these jobs consist of a quick wash, vacuum interior, check tire pressure and under hood fluids. We get them done in about an hour.

My sister asked me if I could get Uncle Jeff to detail the interior of her Mustang. I offered up the shop to Jeff so he could take the job. I left it between him and her, citing "I want nothing to do with it", though I was there to guide Jeff through the tougher parts of the job.

I worked around the shop getting things ready for my detailing day while Uncle Jeff did all the work on the Mustang. I took a few photos along the way. Uncle Jeff was frustrated more than once through this job, but he did a pretty good job in the end. The photos really don't show how dirty this car really was. It took him 14 hours total to complete this job.

Here are some photos, thanks for looking, TD

Now that was quite a challenge but it did turn out pretty darn good!

    Question Dave,

When cleaning interiors do you typically use an extractor and steamer?

Thanks. Uncle Jeff learned a lot on this job. That's good for him and I both.

Thanks Bobby. It did turn out very nice. The photos don't really do it justice.

Yes Bobby. I pre-spot, do a light to heavy overall spray of cleaner for even coverage, I machine scrub when applicable, using a similar procedure to paint polishing, (working in sections, slow arm speed, overlapping passes) then do a thorough water rinse with extractor to remove all the dirt and the detergent as well.

I typically use steam just to activate the cleaner on stains, or in the case of this Mustang interior, pretty much 100% of the seat fabric was steamed after scrubbing then extracted.

Thanks Andrew!! You'll probably be the only one from the forum to actually see this interior in person. The car's still sitting in the shop, and probably will be when you get here.
