Black BMW 740i with 90,000 Miles Lots of Pics

After my "vacation" of 3 silver Bimmers, I got a doo-zee of swirls and scratches!

This black 740i has 90,000 miles and shows it (except for the front bumper which had been repainted nicely before I got the car).

    On with some before's

On the lift and ready to start on the lower portion

    Swirls and scratches

Closeup of work that I have to correct

    Door shot

    After compounding and glazing

Here's a series of shots of the rear quarter Start-Compound-Glaze

    Start

    During compounding

Working the compound to near finish

Glazed. I work the glaze to this level and do not wipe it off. The car will be power washed to remove excess product anyway and wiping can induce light scratches on soft black.

Here's a series on door handles. These particular handles are easy to burn, so I tape them while compounding around them. Following that, I remove the tape, use 3000 grit to lightly sand, then compound and glaze with the Metabo and a small set of pads

Tonight the car will be finished with 3M Ultrafina SE, then a coat of Meguiar's 26.

While my approach takes more time, the results are far superior.

Very nice work Toto, so you use 3000grit on the door handles mmm...can't say I've tried that....oh do you do the same underneath the door handle. You know that little gap/space between the panel and the handle? What do you do to that space/gap?

Every time I see that lift Toto, makes me just want to pick up the phone and order the lift....mmm...very tempting.....must resist hahahaha

    Thanks for sharing.

Nica: the recess of the handle is done by applying compound to a "shop" microfiber (or any decent rag) and rubbing by hand until the area is smooth. Then I apply a coat of glaze in the similar fashion. That process just takes a few minutes and looks great.

Hey Beemer Man, it sure looks good. Scratch-wise it looks like a regular day for me and I know what work it is to do what you do. Amazing.

Have you any thoughts on the CC's of the newer Bmw's, like the E60 and the E90? I have to work those paints hard and after reading a heap of material here I thought I might need to boost the polish up to Menz Nano 106 PF for the scratch removing.

Any suggestions-thoughts-insight will be much appreciated.

    Thanks! Daniel

Wow. That's one of the worst that I've seen you have to do. You made it new.
