CarPro Orange Peel Denim Pads - First use

Hello all, I got a little bored today so I decided to put my CarPro Orange Peel Denim Pads to the test. The vehicle I used it on is a 2003 Chrysler Town & Country. Part of the rear quarter panel of the passenger side was repainted about 4 years ago and had heavy orange peel. At that time, I didn’t even notice the orange peel because I didn’t even know what it was and wasn’t into detailing. It started to bother me once I found AG and finally got to working on it. I wasn’t comfortable with wet sanding and I figured this was a great alternative after doing some research.

    Tools used are:
    Rupes 15
    Menzerna FG400
    CarPro Orange Peel Denim Pads

Panel was quickly cleaned with a QD before doing any machine work for obvious reasons.

*I attached the before and after together to see it better.

Took readings before correction, all reading were around 7.4 - 7.8.

This is a reference picture of factory orange peel on the same panel but closer to the tail light.

I am using the fence as my result to compare.

    Off to the before/afters:

Also, I am trying to get the gas cap in each picture so no "tricks" are being played.

After all was said and done, I took another reading and here is the result:

Pictures were taken before polishing. These are the results of only the Denim Pads and FG400.

From the readings taken, I would say it took off about 0.3-0.4 mils worth of clear. How comparable is that to wet sanding I cannot answer since I've never wet sanded before. Maybe some of you can give a comparison.

This product does take off orange peel very well. Is this the best these pads can do? I wouldn't say so since this is the first time I used it. I am very sure I can get a lot better results with more practice.

Overall, even for my first use, I would say I got some very good results. Most of the orange peel was taken off. I am very happy with this purchase.

    Thanks for looking.

Nicely done! The difference is quite noticeable as shown. And thank you for the readings. I love it when folks show how much was there before and after. PTGs are such awesome tools. They're like torque wrenches, IMO. Must have if you enjoy working on cars (planes, trains, missiles, submarines, etc).

Just a question, are the pads falling apart or do they work fine the whole time. I mean if i should use them to remove orange peel on a whole car, should i buy 10 of them or am i good with just 2?

Exactly! I also took the readings from reading other thread posts. A lot of people want thickness readings when doing this kind of correction.

I can't really answer that question since I was only working on one panel. From what I can see, it didn't seem like it was close to even falling apart. I washed the pads like I would foam pad, squeezing/wringing them out and it still looks good to go for the next correction.

Great job! Thanks for sharing with us. I'm glad so see the pads work with a DA polisher, since I've only seen it used with rotary polishers before. All in all, I'd say you did superbly.
