'42 Caddy-Finally Done (and with DG)

This is the 2nd car I did for the owner of the '53 Chrysler. The paint was a lot more work on this one but the owner told me to "Do the best you can". That's all the inspiration I needed. A little background on this car. It has been driven quite a bit considering it's a pretty rare beast. Not many Caddy's were made during the war; even fewer convertibles. It was a pleasure to work on this car although it's the longest I've ever spent on one car (18 hours). I was very pleased with the results...judge for yourself:
    The Process:

    Fender skirts removed
Top pw'd and then treated with ARO and pw'd again
Wheel wells done with ARO and pw'd
    Wheels done with Surf City
    Tires with ARO
Paint washed with 2 bucket method
Dried initially with leaf blower, then ww mf
    Multiple touch ups
    Re-install fender skirts
Compound with UCCL, wool pad with Rotary
Polished with Rotary, gray pad, 106ff
Glazed with ## WMF via Rotary, blue pad
    DG 601 by hand
    DG 105 by hand
AW after curing period (usually the next day)
Wheels were done with DG 501 and sealed with ## JS
Tires dressed with DP gel, including white walls which were wiped clean after a dwell period
Wells dressed with Adams Undercarriage spray
All chrome was either treated with DG 501 if not bad, followed by JS or treated with 106ff followed by JS on the surfaces that were worse.
Convertible top was covered with blankets during all polishing but still needed a vacuum after as well as a going over with a lint brush.
Paint surfaces that were not able to be reached with the wheel were done by same products by hand
    Glass done with IG
    Carpets treated with Folex
    Mats shampoo'd
Door panels and interior surfaces (paint, chrome, leather not including seats) were treated with 303
Door jams with ONR followed by 303
Leather seats were cleaned with DG leather cleaner and conditioned with DG conditioner (I found these 2 products very close to the smell and results of the Zaino pair)
Engine compartment wiped down with ONR

What a great classic. Great job on all of it! That grill alone had to take some serious hand polishing time.

The chrome for the most part cleaned up really nice with the DG 501. A few places needed 106ff but that finished off quite well.

1942? How rare does that make it? What an amazing car, and a great job on the finish!

Leave the gun. Take the cannoli.

It's rare..I know even the ones built later that year had different chrome. I don't know the value of it though.

I can only imagine that in 42, there was quite a shortage of metals for the war effort.

Was there anybody in the trunk?
