2014 Shelby GT500 paint correction

Joined years ago to lurk and keep up on info but I figured I'd get more active again on the forums. Like most of us, my detailing is a side gig and has taken a major back seat to the rest of life but a friend asked if I'd "fix" the paint on his newly acquired GT500. While it wasn't horrible, the previous owner definitly did not take care of the exterior and loved automatic car washes.

I didn't take as many before pictures, well honestly because I was too eager to get started.

How it arrived:




Owner requested I remove the aftermarket vinyl:


Left with ghost lines: These were actually bad enough I had to use some extra pressure to compound out the lines.


Streaked and water etched matte stripes:


Test spot in an attempt to restore the look and get rid of the shine the previous owner gave them with whatever product was used:

Like I said, I wish I would have grabbed some better before and 50/50 shots but this is after hitting the front fender:

Plastic panel was horribly scratched along with the black plastic around the tails. Now roughly 95% scratch free.

Thanks guys, it was a good weekend for Mustang details. Especially since I am a Mustang guy at heart. Both the Shelby and the Roush went directly to a car meet after leaving my house.

It's actually a make up brush. I'll have to do some digging to see which one but over the years I've tried several different ones for various jobs. This particular one is soft enough for paint but has stiff bristles for emblems.

Nice work, man. I'm a huge Shelby fan. Considering how big of a Mustang guy I am, I find it very odd that in 20 years of detailing I've only detailed ONE freaking Mustang. ONE! Well, two if you consider mine, but that is still insane. I've detailed more Ferraris than mighty Mustangs and I think that is a crime. I've begged Mustang owners to let me do it. I've offered to do it for free if they'd just let me spend some time with it. Nope. They aren't interested. I've found the domestic guys around here don't care to pay someone to clean up their cars. I've got way more luck in the import and exotic crowd and it makes me sad. Still, it is awesome to see one done right. Well done!

I've had similar experiences, except for years ago when I had my mustangs and was running around with several that would have me do their Spring clean up. Lately since detailing has become just extra cash I can be more selective with the vehicles I detail and I tend to do higher end cars for people who have a nice car and have the money to pay someone else to "detail" them. Thinking back, with the exception of the higher end stuff, I had more Evo's and Sti's than I did domestics.
