    If you were in Australia I would say it looks like flying fox etching. That stuff is strong enough to eat straight through clear coat and stain your paint in no time. And sorry I dont have a solution...

    Yes the PEX400 is a random orbit sander, I have not tried to change backing plates but would assume this would not be possible ast the factory backing...
