  1. Re: Bring back the shine on our first new to us camper (gel coat)

P.s. the pads I have been using are the lake country 5.5*7/8 beveled edge cutting yellow pad. I tried a Meg's maroon 5" cutting pad which the mt300 seems like like a bit more due to the less overhang.
  2. Re: Bring back the shine on our first new to us camper (gel coat)

Thanks Mike. Yea I've tried it a few ways (more product, less product), Meg's cutting pad vs the lake country pad. I seem to get the same effect. I spot tested an area using Meg's cutting product,...

  4. Re: Bring back the shine on our first new to us camper (gel coat)

Yea it is marine 31 heavy cut gel coat cleaner wax. I did one whole side and the front and got mixed results. I tested meguires ultra cut then a polish and it looks better so I'm thinking this may...
  5. Re: Bring back the shine on our first new to us camper (gel coat)

Scratch that. It helped some but still getting a bunch of weird inconsistent dull marks
  6. Re: Bring back the shine on our first new to us camper (gel coat)

I think iay have figured it out. I was doing 4-5 passes of left to right up to down and they may be tppany for gel coat. I think it was rubbing the gunk back on. Moved to 2-3 passes of same technique...

Link to my album will have to do for now. It won't let me upload photo from mobile device.
  8. Re: Bring back the shine on our first new to us camper (gel coat)

Hello all, so I finally found time to do this. Camper is all washed and in the garage with my marine 31 heavy cur cleaner wax, lake country yellow foam pad, and Meg's MT300. I'm running into a few...
  9. Re: Bring back the shine on our first new to us camper (gel coat)

So are you reccomending the vert or poli? Trying to follow. Thanks!
  10. Re: Bring back the shine on our first new to us camper (gel coat)

What is the coating you speak of? It is winter here now and everything is in the barn.

No update yet. I just received my needed products to start polishing in the coming weeks. Seeing the...
  11. Re: Bring back the shine on our first new to us camper (gel coat)

Me too. I was intrigued by something this weekend. I bought some products to hopefully remove mold on the caulk (if anyone has some ideas let me know). So far those Mr. Clean erasers are working...
  12. Re: Bring back the shine on our first new to us camper (gel coat)

What is your process for washing/drying? Not sure what you meant here: I may not run it into the filter but the other way around if you insist on the filter.
  13. Re: Bring back the shine on our first new to us camper (gel coat)

Just made my order. We will give'r a shot. Thank you Mike and GKSR for all your help. Ordered:

  14. Re: Bring back the shine on our first new to us camper (gel coat)

Could I use this on the decals shown in the picture as well?
  15. Re: Bring back the shine on our first new to us camper (gel coat)

How many times a year would I use such a product (cleaner/wax)? Reason I ask is, the Gel-Coat like clear is only so thick. Using an abrasive with a heavy cut, how many years before I cut away the...
  16. Re: Bring back the shine on our first new to us camper (gel coat)

Those pictures are after it was washed extensively and some sort of a liquid coating applied(the detailer called it). The claim was that my gel coat was too far gone to recover so they didn't want to...

Thank you both GKSR and Mike for all this wealth of knowledge. Mike, I didn't realize the pics weren't working, my apologies for this. I had read a few ways to do it. Here they are again below the...

  20. Re: Bring back the shine on our first new to us camper (gel coat)

I'm curious too as I cannot find any detailed guides on this, how to you identify if you need to sand or if a compound will suffice? I do have some shine (very little but there?). As I research...
  21. Re: Bring back the shine on our first new to us camper (gel coat)

I think once I know this I'm going to give it a shot.
  22. Re: Bring back the shine on our first new to us camper (gel coat)

Great info. When you say stay on top of it, how often do you recommend?

As for the sanding, what is your queue for when an area has been sanded enough that the fade and dead has been taken care...
  23. Re: Bring back the shine on our first new to us camper (gel coat)

Also, how are you guys sanding? As in what tools and approach?
  24. Re: Bring back the shine on our first new to us camper (gel coat)

I am trying to fully comprehend.. So is your recommendation to go with a 2000-2500 grit sandpaper then to do a compound such as Sonax? Or sand and then straight to some other sort of polish?

    ...
  25. Re: Bring back the shine on our first new to us camper (gel coat)
