    Re: Carpro Darkside; blotchy, streaky??

Too late to clean any more. After 2 coats of Darkside now, worked in and wiped, the tires don't look too bad.
Having them installed today, I'll post a pic later.

    Re: Carpro Darkside; blotchy, streaky??

Suggestions on the wiping part on the interweb are not consistent. Some say wipe right away, some say after 30 minutes. This morning I did a second coat on one tire, worked it in well, lightly wiped,...

    Re: Carpro Darkside; blotchy, streaky??

So the 2 tires I first did, and experimented on, after 24 hours of sitting, they didn't look that bad from 5 feet away, with some natural light. And I realize that the tire face has at least 3...

    Re: Carpro Darkside; blotchy, streaky??

The tires are Nokian, brand new but probably are 2 months old since they came out of the factory. When I cleaned them with the drill brush, there was no brown, it was just white suds from the Brake...

    Carpro Darkside; blotchy, streaky??

I'm an amateur detailer, as my other posts have indicated, and I thought dressing the new rubber would be simple.
Tires were cleaned with straight Brake Buster, drill brush, Tarminator, then inside...
  7. Re: Cleaning brand new tires before first dressing?

I overthink most things, and strive for perfection; we all know the downsides of that.
heard a good advice comment recently on TV; don't let perfect be the enemy of good.

    After finishing the...
  8. Re: Cleaning brand new tires before first dressing?

Lots of food for thought. I generally like to play it safe, so I'll probably bring the mounted wheels home, finish coating the rims, clean the rubber as best as I can, have the wheels installed on he...
  9. Re: Cleaning brand new tires before first dressing?

So as mentioned in my other thread about wheel weights, I'm having the rubber mounted on the rims and balanced, bring them home, then finish coating the barrels, clean/strip the rubber, have the...

Re: Wheel ceramic affect wheel weights?

It'll be up to the tire shop to remove or add weights, based on proper balancing. I'm sure they do this all the time.

I'm gonna coat the face of the rims, have the new rubber mounted and balanced,...

Re: Wheel ceramic affect wheel weights?

Upon a closer look, there are a bunch of adhesive weights in a row on the inside of the barrel, close to the front of the rim. And there's one clip-on on the rear edge of each rim.

    Not sure if the...
  12. Re: Cleaning brand new tires before first dressing?

Denibbing looks like a blade scraper job, would I do that first before cleaning/stripping?
  13. Re: Cleaning brand new tires before first dressing?

So if I wait a few weeks before first dressing, can I still go ahead and clean them now? Or wait until mold agents release before first cleaning.

If I can clean them now, I'll bring them home...

Re: Wheel ceramic affect wheel weights?

I'll talk with the tire shop today, and see what he says. Maybe they only use the clip-on weights, along the edge of the rim. If I have to I'll have them mounted and then coat them before the...
  15. Cleaning brand new tires before first dressing?

Just read an old thread on here about tire cleaners, a product test and review by a member (DFB).

He said to use P&S Undressed to strip down old dirty tires I guess, not sure if that does the job...

    Wheel ceramic affect wheel weights?

Nearly ready to apply Gtechniq C5 to the rims. Saw comments on sites about weights not adhering as well; I guess on the inside of the barrel.
Anyone heard of this? Someone said let the coating cure...

    Re: Stripping wheel coating?

Sorry about that, too many different suggestions, I'll use what I have, I'm sure the coating will adhere fairly well and last until winter.
    Thanks for the reality check.

    Re: Stripping wheel coating?

So, if I start with a high alkaline cleaner, then Iron-X, then clay, then Eraser, might that be enough.
The rims are virtually new so no correction is probably necessary. Do I still need polish?...

    Re: Stripping wheel coating?

kudos to your effort and dedication. The NV sounds interesting. I'm hoping a hand polish would be enough to remove what's left after a good cleaning and chemical decon. I have lots of foam hand pads...

    Re: Stripping wheel coating?

Lots of good food for thought. I guess trying to not make it gobs of work is nice if you can. Without buying a special machine, I could clay and polish by hand, lots of small spaces to work around...

    Re: Stripping wheel coating?

So, I saw a video and an article about using diluted Brake Buster, to remove most old coatings; waxes/sealants and mild Sio2 coatings. Video showed water sprayed on a door panel, had lots of beading,...

    Re: Stripping wheel coating?

Sounds like multiple soap purchases. I'll look into the kit.
I bought Reflect for the paint correction I have to do, maybe that applied by hand would be enough on the rims?

    Re: Stripping wheel coating?

In reading about stripping soap, high alkaline is mentioned (watched a video also), but a soap like Carpro descale is high acidic, and it says it kinda strips.. What ph do I want?

    Re: Stripping wheel coating?

The oem wheels haven't rode thru 4 months, as mentioned, only about a month (Nov to Dec.), as they were removed for winter tires.
What does "three ph" refer to? Three phase, or a ph level of 3?
