Re: Long Term Review Spar vs Opti Pro **PICS**

This proves my point exactly. I never get headlights like that......that can just be buffed out. If I did, I would probably just do the same thing that you are doing. I'll have to post some pics of...

Re: Long Term Review Spar vs Opti Pro **PICS**

So you put up a chart showing the UV index is worse in Hawaii than Florida........I say that I need to move there.............agreeing with you and your chart...........and you tell me that I...

I need to move to Hawaii..............here in Florida, no bones about it......you HAVE TO SAND THEM!!!

Re: Long Term Review Spar vs Opti Pro **PICS**

How much does Delta's coating cost? I tried the OC and it shows every tiny sanding mark.......It didn't work so well for me.......maybe I could use OC over the spar?

Re: Headlight Restoration-new UV sealant idea

Thanks Rsurfer......I use a rotary angle drill right now. I only broke out the Griot's 6" hoping to try something different might work better. My dealer has me back using the spar, which I like.

Re: Headlight Restoration-new UV sealant idea

I have the same thing here. What I've found is that you will never get them to change their minds about doing the lights. Your best bet is to go to other lots (who may be their competition) and try...
  8. Re: How do you know if you applied enough Opti-Lens?

    Mr Fusion,
I guess the main problem here is that I've never done bodyshop repair work. This opti-lens seems to be just like that I'm guessing....I need some bodyshop experience!! lol

Re: Headlight Restoration-new UV sealant idea

I've tried Griot's 3" and 6" machines and various angle electric drills in the past..........I've used 400, 500, 320 and 280 3" discs and what works better for me is by hand. I've used the discs dry...
  10. Re: How do you know if you applied enough Opti-Lens?

Yes, probably good advice adding the 600, 1200........95% of the vehicles I do are only worn on the top 1/4 -1/3.........yeah, I wish I could get more of the ones that are all worn off already so I...

Re: Headlight Restoration-new UV sealant idea

Yes, the Quest is odd shaped, as are many others. You're very lucky if you can start with 800 and rarely ever have to go below 500. Headlights must be different in Hawaii than in Florida because 95%...

Re: Headlight Restoration-new UV sealant idea

What do you use to sand/polish headlights that come to a point in corners or have tight spaces? I tried Opti-Lens and found that it takes a ton more sanding/compounding/polishing and still didn't...
  13. Re: How do you know if you applied enough Opti-Lens?

The method that I've used for the past 3years is
all wet-sanding 400, 800, 1500, 3000.......then clean off, dry, wipe with mineral spirits......let dry and use the spar method. Any light scratches...
  14. Re: How do you know if you applied enough Opti-Lens?

I feel like I wasted my $60 on this Opti-lens. I tried my first set of lights and OMG! I sanded and compounded and compounded some more, then applied it and it looked like crap. I compounded more and...
  15. Re: How do you know if you applied enough Opti-Lens?

First time user here......It does seem like the pad you supply in the kit is rather large and would unnecessarily absorb too much product. Can a smaller foam applicator work just as well? Also, I...

Re: Headlight Restoration-new UV sealant idea

I have been doing the spar method for 3 years with success. Yesterday my used car dealer finally is pressuring me to use another product. I'm not sure if spar has changed its formula but, I am going...

Re: Long Term Review Spar vs Opti Pro **PICS**

I am actually considering switching to the Opti-coat. So wouldn't polishing also cause the Opti-coat to come off, like the spar does?

Re: Long Term Review Spar vs Opti Pro **PICS**

The only problem I see with this test is that both sides weren't sanded the same(the Opti-coat was sanded/polished more) so obviously the side sanded/polished more should look more clear.......and we...

Re: Headlight Restoration-new UV sealant idea

The mistakes most beginners make is taking too much time with application and the mix. I've been using the spar method 3 years now. I live in Florida and work outside so the weather(temp., wind,...

Do you have any before and after pics? I've never seen or heard any complaints of that before. I do know that the shiny chrome on the back of the inside of the headlight housing is there to reflect...

Re: Headlight Restoration-new UV sealant idea

It seems to me there are a number of factors involved in the amount of time that a coating will last.
The mix ratio for one.......the more spar...the longer they seem to last. I'm trying to work as...

In my experience, this method will only cover up extremely light swirl marks.....the deep ones WILL show through!

Re: Headlight Restoration-new UV sealant idea

Thats so weird!! Here in Florida you can buy the Spar at Lowe's, Home Depot, Ace, Walmart......almost anywhere!!
  25. Re: Headlight sealant: spar urethane vs. opti coat 2.0

Actually, no.....I have not used any WOWA sealants or Opti-Coat. I have no experience with those products and only assumed that an excess amount of product would not be flashed and cause a streak on...
