Would it be a bad idea of going with the 4.5" backing plate and some 5" or 5.5" pads rather than the standard backing plate that comes on the machine?

I hope so, will find out soon.

I applied some cleaner wax on the front fender to test out while waiting on a new backing plate and pads. Was surprised how it turned out.

This is correct, I took a better look at it. I do have a 3m eraser wheel that I can give a try. The paint is not in great condition on the truck so not that concerned about it. Just want to clean...

Looks like the adhesive that was used on the “LT” decals on the truck. They might have melted by being in the heat.

Thanks, I just can’t see adhesive remover getting this stuff off. I’ll give some a try though and see what happens.

Thanks, this stuff is hard to the touch. Might try using a heat gun and a plastic scraper first.

What’s the easiest way to remove this old adhesive? It’s on my 2001 Silverado.

I gave the tailgate a quick wipe down with just water and a rag to see how it might clean up.
